กราฟแท่งแบบวางซ้อนกัน เหมาะสมกับการแสดงผลที่ต้องการเห็นข้อมูลย่อยในแต่ละข้อมูลใหญ่ เราสามารถเห็นอัตราส่วนของข้อมูลย่อยนั้นได้ด้วย แต่เน้นไปที่ข้อมูลชิ้นใหญ่ จากตัวอย่าง A, B และ C นั้นมีส่วนประกอบของเหล็ก ถ่าน และอลูมิเนียมที่แตกต่างกัน แต่เราเน้นหนักไปที่ น้ำหนักของวัตถุแต่ละชนิด

และความสว่าง อีกทั้งยังง่ายในการเจาะลงไปในส่วนย่อยๆด้วย
สามารถดูตัวอย่างที่น่าสนใจได้จากโครงการNewsMap (http://newsmap.jp/) ที่แสดงผลการรวบรวมข่าวจาก Google News โดยเราสามารถวิเคราะห์ดูได้ตามข้อมูลประเทศ ชนิดข่าว เวลา เป็นต้น

นิยมใช้แสดงค่าตัวเลขเดี่ยวๆ
หรือใช้เปรียบเทียบกับข้อมูลอื่นที่สัมพันธ์กัน
สามารถใช้สีเพื่อแสดงถึงช่วงของตัวเลขได้ด้วย (เช่น เขียว-เหลือง-แดง
แปลเป็น ปกติ-เตือน-ระวัง) มักจะใช้ใน Dashboard
ปัญหาของเกจคือใช้พื้นที่เยอะ และถ้ามีเกจหลายตัวจะลำบากในการจัดเรียงในพื้นที่จำกัด
ปัญหาของมิเตอร์คือ การแทนค่าด้วยสีหรือลวดลาย ทุกคนไม่ได้รู้ความหมายของสีเหล่านั้น
